There is no better skill to cultivate as a human than meditation – after all those basic survival skills of course.
But once you find you are safe, and well-fed, and healthy and secure – the art and practice of meditation will help you with everything else you are trying to achieve on your human journey.
Meditation is primarily the Art of Noticing. As boring as that seems at first – just sitting or lying still with your eyes closed observing your internal processes – the more insightful and valuable a practice it becomes as you engage with it over time.
There is nothing more valuable you can do than notice your own thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, moods, reactions and all the other energetic nuances that make up your human tapestry.
Noticing something is the first step to shifting or changing it, or leaving it be if necessary. You won’t stop to change the tire on your car unless you notice it is flat. You won’t get up and shut your door unless you notice the cold draft in the room.
So how can you change the way you think or feel if you don’t take the time to genuinely notice how it is you are thinking and feeling?
Meditation can also be and expansion of the lens in which we view the world. By stepping outside the surface-level thinking mind that is concerned with the events of the day you can cultivate a wider, macro view of your life as an expanded being of consciousness beyond the human life you are living.
Zooming out from a short-term view imbued with the anxieties and chaos of the modern matrix quiets the mind by viewing reality through a broader, more cosmic lens. You can view events by standing downtown on a busy street corner, or you can climb the mountain outside of town and look down on the city from there. Both perspectives offer views of the same thing, but from a much different angle.
The more angles and perspectives from which we view our life and the world around us, the less anxious and claustrophobic our human journey feels. It doesn’t mean you stop being downtown in the events of your life, but you may find you start to do it with more ease, grace and flow.
Noticing the full spectrum of your experiences, even the most subtle.
Connecting into a greater stability beyond the human mind.
Experiencing yourself as a being existing and experiencing on multiple layers of reality.
The sharp edges of life lose their anxious bite as your world resonates from a deeper level.
The practice isn’t about creating a perfect state.
It’s about becoming more attuned and aware of the life you’re already living.
